On surprising night of November 22, 1987, Chicago tuning services in watching television were met with strangest programming. Its one of the most disturbing moments in American broadcasting history, two television stations WGN-TV and WTTW-TV were hijacked by an stranger using Max Headroom mask. To date, over 37 years later, the case is just not solved and just settled on papers like just fascinating stories.
At 9:14 pm first hijacking take place, when WGN-TV broadcasting highlights of a game taking place in between Chicago bears vs Detroit lions, suddenly viewers saw a man jerking off by wearing Max headroom mask for 17 seconds. There was no audio but visual message that someone gained unauthorized access of broadcasting system. WGN engineers worked quickly and regain the control and describe it as a computer glitch.
Later on that same night, at 11:20 pm, another channel WTTW-TV was airing an episode of Doctor, and hijacked returned for 30 seconds, this time both audio and visual were disturbed. The interruption showing strange references and outfits. It was just awkward and pre-rerecorded video which is executed with plan and effort. At that moment no engineers were present for WTTW and they just ended video by themselves.
As Max Headroom was a just a fictional AI television host created in 1985. Basically known for his speech, aesthetics and tone. In new commercial of coke, which is known as coca cola’s, famously used by company. The hijackers used microwave transmission to gain the ultimate signals rights in downtime of servers.
Despite involvement of private and government agencies, this hijacking remain unsolved and its proving in world of advancement there is still few things are present that vanished completely by leaving no trace.
